Physicians at Danat Al Emarat Hospital in Abu Dhabi performed its first Intrauterine Fetal Blood Transfusion for a fetus on 23 weeks of pregnancy suffering from severe anemia. The transfusion, a life-saving procedure, was done on 4 sessions. Advanced ultrasounds & lab investigations suggested that an infection by a virus called 'Parvo' virus transmitted from the mother caused the hydrops and fetal severe anemia. The Emirati baby, Mezna, was born on 30 weeks of pregnancy & is in good health.
