Emirates has announced it will launch a new daily service from Dubai to Montreal starting on July 5. This makes Montreal Emirates’ second gateway in Canada, complementing its passenger services to Toronto, which have been operating since 2007.

The launch of services to Montreal comes as the UAE and Canada aim to deepen economic cooperation between the two nations and benefit the aviation and tourism sectors. The daily flights will also help meet the huge demand for direct flights between Dubai and Canada.

This year's Joint Ramadan Iftar Abu Dhabi was a great testament to the continuous collaboration among business councils and chambers in Abu Dhabi.

CBC Abu Dhabi organized the event, and nine other business councils and chambers participated. In total, 170+ members and guests attended – triple last year's number.

The evening began with a sprawling buffet of traditional delights in a beautiful Al Andalus Tent at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Abu Dhabi, a CBC Abu Dhabi corporate member. Networking among members and guests continued throughout the evening.

We thank His Excellency Kris Panday, the Canadian ambassador to the UAE, for his opening remarks, CBC Chair Dhia Hussain for welcoming the guests, and Lina Hussain for emceeing the evening.

Air Canada, a CBC corporate member, has announced the strategic expansion of its international network with the addition of new, non-stop flights from  Vancouver  to Dubai. The route will operate four times weekly beginning Oct. 28, 2023, on Air Canada's flagship Dreamliner fleet.

These new flights will complement Air Canada's daily service between Toronto and Dubai, broadening its presence in fast-growing international markets.

The Government of Saskatchewan, a CBC platinum member, organized a mission to the UAE in February that was led by the Honourable David Marit, Saskatchewan’s minister of agriculture. The minister spent time promoting Saskatchewan’s sustainable crop production, building trade and investment relationships, and exploring new opportunities for collaboration between the UAE and Saskatchewan. 

During the visit, the minister had discussions on topics related to food security and sustainable energy with ministers and officials from the UAE government and key agriculture stakeholders at Gulfood. He also hosted a sustainability roundtable with government and industry partners and participated in the Inspire conference’s food security panel.

Saskatchewan is home to the food, fuel, and fertilizer that can help provide safe and reliable resources around the globe. In 2022, Saskatchewan supplied nearly 70 per cent of the UAE’s imported lentils. 

The province has a trade and investment office in Dubai to collaborate and further business relationships in the Middle East and North Africa region.

It recently launched the Sustainable Saskatchewan website, which outlines the sustainable economic development in the province. This ThinkSask 2022 video summarizes what Saskatchewan has to offer.

The province thanks the UAE Government, Global Affairs Canada, the Canada-UAE Business Council, and the Canadian Business Councils in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for their continued collaboration. Saskatchewan is proud of its longstanding relationships with industry partners in the agriculture sector and is excited to further explore mutually beneficial opportunities.

The Canadian ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Kris Panday, has welcomed the launch of the Canada-UAE Sovereign Wealth Fund Council (SWFC). 

“The mission of the SWFC is to harness the synergies between Canada and the UAE’s preeminent institutional investors to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns in support of common interests,” said Ambassador Panday.

The SWFC will help identify opportunities for strategic capital collaboration and thought leadership between Canadian public pension funds and UAE sovereign wealth funds in global markets. It is designed to offer an investment collaboration framework with a dynamic and flexible structure, benefitting Canada and the UAE as two key investment partners. 

Ambassador Panday and His Excellency Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani, the UAE ambassador to Canada, will serve as chief co-patrons of the SWFC. 

Shezad Rokerya has been appointed as senior advisor to Ambassador Panday and will serve as chairman of the SWFC.

The Emirates Defence Companies Council (EDCC) and CBC Abu Dhabi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at accelerating cooperation and identifying business opportunities in defence industries.

Mona Ahmed Al Jaber, the chairwoman of the EDCC, and Dhia Hussain, the chairperson of CBC Abu Dhabi, signed the at the Tawazun Council Chalet at IDEX and NAVDEX 2023, which was held in Abu Dhabi in late February.

L3Harris, a CBC gold member, and Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation and establish a framework for ADSB to be the local service center for L3Harris’ Integrated Platform Management System on naval vessels. This is an important initiative that formalizes and strengthens the existing relationship between L3Harris and ADSB.

This framework will be a great addition to local support efforts to ensure superior customer value in the UAE.
