In June, the Government of Saskatchewan welcomed two high-level delegations from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to showcase the province’s capabilities and discuss partnership opportunities.

From June 5 to 9, the board members from the Canada – UAE Business Council (CUBC) and key UAE stakeholders met with Premier Scott Moe, ministers, business leaders, and experts to discuss advancing bilateral relations to expand trade and investment opportunities focused on sustainability, energy, critical minerals, and agriculture.

The CUBC delegation was led by CUBC board co-chairs Musabbeh Al Kaabi and the Honourable Jean Charest. Musabbeh Al Kaabi is the Executive Director of Low Carbon Solutions and International Growth at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC.) ADNOC is the largest energy company in the UAE and the 12^th largest in the world. The Honourable Jean Charest is a Partner at McCarthy Tétrault and was the Premier of Quebec from 2003 to 2012.

On June 15, Saskatchewan hosted a delegation from the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), including Managing Director and CEO H.E. Mohamed Al Hammadi. The delegation met with:

• ·        Honourable Jeremy Harrison – Minister of Trade and Export Development and Minister of Immigration and Career Training
• ·        Honourable Dana Skoropad – Minister of Environment
• ·        Tim Gitzel – CEO of Cameco Corporation

ENEC explored opportunities for collaboration in small modular reactors and nuclear innovation. Saskatchewan is home to the world’s largest high-grade uranium deposits and is committed to working with partners on sustainability efforts to contribute towards net-zero emissions by 2050.

In the first quarter of 2023, Saskatchewan saw more than 25 incoming commercial and diplomatic delegations, with many more on the horizon. The province is thrilled to welcome international delegations and to proudly showcase the best of what Saskatchewan has to offer.
